The Government of Uttar Pradesh has announced Solar Power Policy focusing on implementation of utility scale projects. Government of Uttar Pradesh was equally committed to promote rooftop solar photovoltaic projects and has taken support from ComSolar through the Government of India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy on several aspects related to development of rooftop solar power generation projects in the State.
In order to utilise the incident solar radiation together with an objective of encouraging environment benign solar technology, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has formulated a policy for deployment of utility scale solar power projects. The electricity generated from such projects shall also support the obligated entities in complying with the target announced by the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission.
During the analysis it has been found that the tariff for different consumer categories in the State of Uttar Pradesh are increasing steeply from one year to another providing a suitable business case for implementing the rooftop solar photovoltaic projects for self-consumption and inject the surplus electricity, if any into the electricity grid. On these lines, to promote implementation of rooftop solar photovoltaic projects ComSolar supported the Government of Uttar Pradesh in deliberating on a separate policy for rooftop solar photovoltaic projects implemented for self-consumption under net energy metering mechanism. Further, in addition, ComSolar has also supported the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency in preparing suitable recommendations for implementing net energy metering mechanism as well as norms for feed-in tariff for submission to Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Recently the State Government has accorded its approval towards rooftop solar power plant policy and now Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency is preparing itself for the implementation of 2 MW rooftop solar photovoltaic projects with financial assistance from Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The state aims at implementing further capacities in near term.
- GIZ is assisting the Government of Uttar Pradesh in developing framework for encouraging rooftop solar photovoltaic projects
- 2 MW solar rooftop photovoltaic projects are envisaged to be implemented in select cities of the State.
- MNRE has already sanctioned Central Financial Assistance (CFA) up to 30% of the project cost to Uttar Pradesh for implementation
